Best-Laid Plans

January 16, 2014

Hello all,

It has been a busy winter for these bones.  I have been fortunate enough to land two great spots thanks to the hard work of friends at Platform Music Group and GEMS as well as putting my nose to the grind stone in the studio.

The first being the theme song to the new Nat Geo show, “The Legend of Mick Dodge.”  The intro to the show features a version of “Dancin’ Tonight” off The Wildness EP.  Super excited about that.  I haven’t seen the show, but I hear it’s great.  They tell me it’s on Tuesdays at 10pm on NatGeo.  So go take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Also, two weeks ago Equinox Gym launched their, “Equinox Made Me Do It” campaign with a great little video that features a song called “Ticket Home” off my upcoming release.  This song isn’t available just yet… but with any luck you should be able to find it kicking around the internet in the next month or so.  So keep your eyes peeled.

Which brings me to why I’ve been so busy these past few months… I have been busy in the studio recording a new album, set to be released this spring. I’m particularly excited because this will be my first full length annnnddd I’ve been lucky enough to have a great producer to help me out along the way, Charles Newman of Mother West.  I’m feeling very professional these days.  I can’t share much more than that… I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

Oh! I almost forgot, if you are out and about these next coming month please stop on by a show.  I have a handful in the North East in early February and few down in Texas in March for SXSW.  They are listed below.  The First being this coming Sunday 1/19 in NYC at Rockwood.  I play at ten.

The Yearling

October 8, 2013
Good evening,
I’m writing to you, hot toddy in hand from my home away from home up here in the Catskills.  I hope your summer ended well.  It seemed to go by too quickly this year.  I’m usually the first person to want October at my door step, but even I have to say August felt no longer than a day.
I have some exciting news!  You may be hearing my music on your televisions very shortly.  I don’t want to give too much away until all my ducks are in a row, so to speak…but hopefully I can give you more info soon.
There’s good bunch of shows coming up: this Thursday I will be performing at the CBGB Fest here in NYC.  I’d love to see you there.  Details are here along with my other scheduled shows.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to be working with a talented producer these last couple of months and am in the process of turning those efforts into new songs for you.  I am in the middle of recording a full length as we speak and hope to have something for years early in the new year. This will be my first full length… and am very excited and little overwhelmed by the possibilities.

July 12, 2013
Heya now,
I hope all of you are getting outdoors this summer.  Its been rainy here in the northeast…but all that water has been keeping us cool.
Some big shows coming up.   I will be out in LA from July 15th to the 23rd, with some private and public shows planned.  I will be at The Echo on the 18th(8pm) and Hotel Cafe on the 23rd(9pm).  Again, these are my first official shows out in LA so get your ass out there and let me see you shake it twice.  I will be traveling out there with my whole set-up including some decent merch.  Including a very limited amounted handprinted woodblock cuts.  Printed by yours truly. (see below)
Also this Saturday(7/13) is my last show scheduled in Brooklyn for the Summer thus far… so expect to see you there!  I will be performing as  part of the Melodica Festival at Brooklyn Fire Proof.  I play at 8pm.
I’m also very pleased to announce that The Bones of J.R. Jones will be performing at this years Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale NY.  I’m set to play on Friday August 2nd and plan on sticking around the area for the weekend to do some camping and see some great music.  Come join me!
Lastly if you haven’t seen it yet… The Bones of J.R. Jones was profiled on a great little site called Sunday Routine.  Take a quick read and learn why I drink apple cider vinegar… cause I know you are dying to know.Anyways… thats all I can think of to write for now.  I’m sure I forgot something… I always do.  And get to your closest mountain/hill/lake/pond/ocean/beach!  Sometimes I think it is the only thing that keeps me sane in this city.

be well. be good.

July 4th

July 4, 2013

It is the Fourth of July.  I hope everyone appreciates what we have and all the we don’t.  We can always strive to make this a better place to live.  BOOM! POW! KABOOM! ZING!

Hey all,

Please come out this Sunday to Pete’s Candy Store for this Northside Festival Showcase.  Show starts at 8:30.  I play at 10:30.

yup yup.Northside Festival

Good morning to you all,

Got back from tour not too long ago… and I just want to take a moment and thank everyone, who came out, gave shelter, gave food, and tapped their toes along with the music. I think I can safely say, I made some good friends and some good memories.

I hope you all are staying cool during this burst of heat here in the city or where ever you call home. Thought I would start June off with a quick little note to all of you and let you know whats cookin.

I’m happy to announce that The Bones of J.R. Jones will be playing the Northside Festival here in BK. The show will be at Pete’s Candy Store on June 16th. The howling will begin at 8:30 sharp.

I’m also very happy to announce two shows in LA! July 18th at The Echo and July 22nd at Hotel Cafe. These will be my first official performances on the West Coast! So get out to BOTH of the shows cause one sure as hell won’t be enough.

There are also some murmurings about a short film diving into the history of J.R. Jones and what happened to him. This one is a long way out… I still have to get up to my attic and dig through those old news paper clippings about it all.

And lastly, the site Nine Bullets just published a review of my album, The Wildeness. Nine Bullets is a great little site, that offers up reviews on albums and sports a radio show every Saturday. Be sure to take a listen.

Here is a little excerpt from the review:

“This is the People’s Music – brutal, honest, dirty, sometimes mean, but lovely all at the same time. This music can make you sweat, or it might be that it just helps you realize that your sins are what are making you sweat, but sometimes you have to let go and trust that the artist knows what he is doing. The Bones of J.R. Bones deserve your trust, and your time, and ultimately, your love and appreciation.”

Anyways, be sure to check out my show page for all updates. There are some great ones coming up. Including a couple with Melaena Cadiz and a street performance in the Meat Packing District. Please come on out and say hi. It would be good to see you.

Warming up the car.

May 14, 2013
I will keep this short and as sweet as a summer night, as I know we are very busy and important people.  I have some exciting stuff on the horizon I would like to share with you.  First, A hearty handful of shows coming up that are ever growing.  You can see all confirmed shows here and at the bottom of this post.

Second, at the end of May I will be doing a short bout through the northeast with the very talented musician Melaena Cadiz.  We have a couple of radio spots planned for our trip so if you are familiar with WGDR/WGDH up near Burlington,VT or WERS in Boston you may just find on us on your dial(I will post more about that when I have more details.) We are also working on little EP together, that we hope to have out for you this Summer. It will most likely include at least one Springsteen song.. yip yip…. more on that soon.

Third, for all you west coast people… I will most definitely be out there this summer to play a show or two.  You will likely find me on your doorstep sometime at the end of July.  I will be out there working with the good people at Platform Music.  So keep your ears to ground.

And Lastly, I had the pleasure of making a short video for my new song, “Hearts Racing” with my friends at The Spindle Room. I have to say, I think it came out rather nice.

There is some other news a brewing….. but I don’t want to spoil it until it’s for sure.
